According to a survey by market research firm Juniper, Research, the application of gestures and motion control functions to VR smart phones is crucial.
Juniper predicts that VR equipment will grow by 280 percent from 2020 to 492 million U.S. dollars in 2016.
The research firm expects that by 2021 nearly 50% of wearable devices and all VR devices will use gesture control technology. But for more established platforms, such as PCs and smartphones, the amount of gesture control is limited.
"The 2017 campaign of smart VR-based mobile phone control will begin to shift to multi-mode interactive computing through the use of peripherals and gesture control," Juniper said.
"But this change is simply simply broadening the functionality and preventing the use of the device as a whole unless the UI style can change."
Juniper researchers James Moar added, "VR and wearable devices show that gestures and touch can provide new ways for VR technology to interact."
"Only when those tech companies have enough courage to incorporate gestures and motion control into their UI, game developers on other platforms will use it, rather than including gestures and motion control into game development considerations. â€
