Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific recently signed a $5 million cooperation agreement with the Information Communication Media Development Authority of Singapore to use technologies such as 4K and virtual reality to help strengthen content production in Singapore.
The Singapore Information and Communications Media Development Authority stated in a statement on Monday that the cooperation lasts for one year and aims to help Singapore local production companies train talents through technologies such as 4K and virtual reality, and collaborate with them to create content. The resulting content will first appear on the Discovery Channel's international network.
They added that the cooperation will also provide content producers in Singapore with an international platform to present their content to the world and learn new skills from it. In addition, content producers in Singapore can also try to support various content formats for multi-channel publishing platforms.
As part of the agreement, they will start publicly soliciting entries and promotional videos next month to provide aspiring producers with a training camp to help them understand the best practices for shooting documentaries. The short-listed films will first be played on Discovery's platform and online video operator Viddsee's platform.
Experienced content producers will participate in a series of seminars next year to provide advice and experience on how to make 4K content through advanced technology. And the project with the Singapore content production company will be broadcast on the Discovery Channel.
In addition, the Discovery Channel employees around the world will begin training producers in 2017 to teach them how to use VR technology in storytelling.
