LED is a fast-growing product. The standards for LEDs and related accessories are being developed in various countries and regions around the world. The IEC organization of LED module control devices and LED module connectors has been developed. As a safety standard and performance standard for light sources, the IEC organization is also in the process of being developed. In terms of radiation safety testing of LED products for lighting, the requirements of various countries in the world are also different. The United States has adopted the most relaxed policy for LED products for lighting, and believes that LED products for lighting are safe in terms of radiation safety. No testing is required. In Europe, there is a safety hazard in LED products for lighting. LEDs in lighting products are required to comply with IEC/EN 60825-1 "Safety requirements for laser products - Part 1: Equipment classification, requirements and user guides - Chapter 1 - General Requirements" requirements of the standard. CTL 297/05 Resolution has clear requirements for lighting equipment that uses LEDs as a light source. LEDs should meet the requirements of Class 1 or Class 1M products of IEC/EN 60825-1. However, in order to save expensive testing costs, the CTL resolution gives three treatment methods:
First, if the light intensity is very low, such as a common LED used for display or signal, most of them meet the requirements of Class 1 of IEC/EN60825-1, so there is no need to perform the test. At the time of judgment, the cover, optics, and the like are removed by hand. It should be noted in the report that the light intensity is judged to meet the requirements of Class 1 laser in IEC/EN60825-1 and is not detected.
Second, in other cases, the lighting manufacturer should be required to provide a statement based on the relevant test (eg from the LED manufacturer) to indicate that the radiation from the LED module does not exceed Class 1 or Band in the IEC/EN60825-1 standard. 1M class requirements with or without optics. The judgment should be stated in the report according to the manufacturer's statement.
Third, if the statement cannot be provided or we are not sure how to judge it, it should be tested according to IEC/EN60825-1. It should be noted in the report that measurements have been taken. For lighting equipment with a light source belonging to the Class 2 laser class, the lighting device shall be treated as a laser in accordance with IEC/EN60825-1, which shall comply with the relevant laser
Safety standard requirements.
For manufacturers producing LED lighting equipment, there are three ways to detect LED lighting equipment according to this CTL resolution. The first is the statement, the second is based on the report or test results of the LED manufacturer, and the third is sent to the authoritative third-party laboratory for radiation safety testing. If the LED used does not belong to Class 1 or Class 1M, it should be processed in accordance with the laser and must meet the safety requirements of the relevant laser product.
