Power outlet boxes are installed in different locations in each room of the home for use by various appliances. The nominal capacity is 10A, 16A, and the appearance is shown in Figure 1. (Figure 1 is a socket box with a single socket. Commonly, there are socket boxes with two or three sockets.) When users actually use it, they often want some sockets. The voltage at both ends can be adjusted to meet the different needs of electrical appliances, such as dimming for desk lamps or lighting, temperature regulation of soldering irons, and speed regulation of fans.
To do this, simply connect 5 components inside the socket box (see Figure 2 for connection), and you can quickly and easily change to an adjustable voltage socket. This is a bidirectional thyristor voltage regulator circuit. According to different needs, by adjusting the resistance value of the potentiometer RP, the speed of charging C is changed, that is, changing the voltage on C triggers the timing of the bidirectional diode VD being turned on, that is, changing the bidirectional The conduction angle of the thyristor VS, which changes the voltage across the socket.
In Figure 2, RP selects WTX-K type potentiometer (470kΩ), R selects RJ type resistor (1kΩ/0.25W), C selects CZM type capacitor (0.1μF/400V), Vt3 selects 2CTS type bidirectional trigger diode, VS selects BTA Plastic sealed bidirectional thyristor (10A/400V).
When installing, first remove the fixing bolts on the cover of the socket box to separate the cover and the bottom box. Open a small hole in the appropriate position of the cover to fix the RP, and let the RP shaft protrude from the cover a little. The bottom box has a large internal volume and is more than enough to accommodate the above five components.
Finally, restore the socket box, put a knob on the shaft of the RP, and adjust the knob to obtain the required voltage.
