Intel's new tablet: standby for 10 hours in three weeks

Intel today announced new details of its chip technology. It hopes that this move will help the company gain a foothold in the tablet PC market.

At the conference, Intel introduced the new flat panel design. It is based on the Windows 8 system and uses its own latest processor.

In the past few years, Intel has been talking about the ultrabook. The notebook is light, thin, and is designed to be deformed, using Intel's chips. At the press conference on Thursday, Intel introduced a different approach. It wants manufacturers to use their own Atom chips to produce flat panels.

Intel said that the new tablet is mainly used Atom Z2760, which is the new name, it was previously codenamed Clover Trail. The new processor is called SoC in the industry, that is, the system chip, including the core logic of the two microprocessors, as well as Hyper-Threading technology support.

System manufacturers can use Intel's new chip to produce devices weighing only 1.5 pounds and 8.5 mm thick. The chip uses a lot of energy-saving technology, battery life up to 10 hours. In another mode, which is connected to standby mode, it can be used for 3 weeks at a time.

Erik Reid, general manager of Intel's application processor division, said: "This SoC is incredibly energy-efficient."

At the meeting, Intel demonstrated how Microsoft Windows 8 runs on the new tablet and also demonstrated some programs designed for touch interfaces. Some companies will launch tablets based on new chips, including Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Samsung, ZTE, Fujitsu, Lenovo, Asus, and LG Electronics.
