A good protection mechanism must be comprehensive and comprehensive considerations for the input, output and LED backlight of the topology, and at the same time take into account the high LED drive current capability and current balance.
However, while the LED backlight module began to shine, it was necessary to simultaneously consider the prevention of the failure mode of the LED backlight module, which avoids the doubts about the safety of use due to its failure, especially when the application extends from the family to the In public, the LED driver integrated circuit (Driver IC) protection action mechanism is particularly important.
At present, the main protection mechanism of LED driver ICs is divided into protection of topology, such as Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Current Protection (OCP), and Short Circuit Protection (SCP). Protection is not only for the protection of electrical applications, but also for module-side, system-side process-related protection, and the purpose is to consider or not damage the system-side components for safety; and to protect the LED strip ends, such as LED open-circuit protection. (LED Open Protection, LOP), LED Short Protection (LSP); because LED is a semiconductor physical component, excessive operating voltage and long operating current will cause damage to the LED components, so if the power supply voltage is unstable A short circuit caused by the LED line or its own quality factor, or an open circuit will cause the LED to fail, resulting in a difference in brightness, which in turn affects the quality of the panel picture and the life of the LED. LED backlight protection mechanisms have their own expertise
The topology structure generally used in LED driving is aimed at providing LED stable current, and then selecting the appropriate topology structure according to the voltage relationship between output and input; compared with the current application, the brightness of LED is proportional to the current and the number of applications, so In order to achieve high brightness and multiple LEDs in series, its multi-string parallel use is the most common application of today's backlight modules.
The voltage required to drive the LED is also higher than the input voltage; the boost converter (Figure 2) is a fairly good topology, but because of the boost architecture, if any abnormality occurs Abnormal high voltage output and high input current will be necessary factors for designers to consider.
