Alibaba has announced a technological innovation and hopes to provide more convenient express delivery services for the future world. The company demonstrated an autopilot delivery robot that delivers online merchandise to the user's hand, with a storage compartment with facial recognition and thermal insulation for a further experience.
The robot, called G Plus, is currently being tested at the Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou. G Plus robots can carry a variety of different sizes of packages and are shipped farther than their predecessors.
The G Plus shipping container can be adjusted to the size of the cargo, and Alibaba says the robot can also deliver fresh food. The G Plus has a built-in LIDAR-based navigation system that reduces the speed to 6.2 miles per hour (about 10 kilometers per hour) if it detects nearby people or cars, leaving enough braking distance. For safety reasons, the maximum speed is 9.3 miles per hour (about 15 kilometers per hour).
When G Plus arrives at the destination, it will automatically place the goods in the storage bin, or the user can come forward and enter the PIN code to pick up the goods. G Plus is expected to begin commercial production by the end of this year.
A storage box called a rookie box, which can be installed outside the door, and its face unlocking function is used to confirm the identity of the owner and courier. In addition, the user can also adjust the temperature of the storage box through the mobile phone to heat or refrigerate food, drinks, and the like. The rookie box is still in the concept stage and there is no specific business schedule.
