ã€World Wide Web Reporter Zhang Zhiying】 Is your 4G mobile phone enough? With the telecommunications industry intensifying their efforts on 5G and downloading 6GB high-definition movies for two seconds, they have not imagined being far away.
At this week's Fourth Internet Conference in Wuzhen, Huawei's rotating CEO Xu Zhijun announced that it will launch a full-scale 5G network equipment solution for commercial scale in 2018, a Kirin chip supporting 5G in 2019, and a smartphone test supporting 5G. In other words, it may take only two or three years to enjoy the 5G experience.
Huawei fully implemented 5G, and Yang Chaobin, president of Huawei's wireless business, revealed that the budget of 4 billion yuan last year was not only exhausted, but it was not enough. At present, more than 5,000 employees have invested in 5G projects. In order to win the 5G war situation, Huawei put in the layout as early as 8 years ago.
Yang Chaobin shared the 5G plan in a communication meeting with reporters.
What will 5G bring us?
For end users and operators, the value brought by 5G is mainly reflected in: First, for consumers, the speed that can be enjoyed will increase by 10 times. Second, the delay is also reduced by 10 times. The 5G NR is equivalent to increasing the current LTE cell capacity by 20-30 times. While improving the user experience, it also reduces the cost per operator of network construction.
Xu Zhijun said that 5G greatly enhances the mobile Internet experience of consumers. For example, it takes less than 2 seconds to download 6GB HD movies using 5G technology. Secondly, 5G can support the connection of 100 billion grades and provide industrial-grade reliability and real-time capabilities. These capabilities make 5G a key foundation for the smooth implementation of industry strategies such as Industry 4.0 and China Manufacturing 2025.
5G is not only an important change in the history of mobile communications, but also shoulders the responsibility of enabling the digitalization of the entire industry, bringing with it an industrial revolution of everything, everything, and everything. From 2G to 4G, Huawei has achieved a historical transition from technology follow-up to gradual progress. In the 5G technical standard, Huawei invested early and vigorously.
Huawei's 5G deployment
Huawei started 5G research in 2009, when Huawei released the first LTE network in Oslo, Norway. At that time, Huawei recruited top experts in the wireless field worldwide to conduct 5G core technology research. The first was Stockholm, Sweden, followed by Paris, France, Munich, Germany, Finland, the United States, Ottawa, Canada, Moscow, Russia, and Milan, Italy.
“There are not many experts in the field of wireless communications. If you want to find a suitable candidate, you must set up a corresponding point in the right place before you can attract top talent. Huawei does make full use of the top experts in the global wireless field, including Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, China. Huawei has a corresponding research team doing 5G research, said Yang Chaobin.
This year, Huawei has been promoting the decoupling of uplink and downlink technologies to the 3GPP standard. Given that the coverage problems of the 3.5GHz and 4.8GHz frequency bands have been difficult to solve, Huawei proposed to use the upper and lower decoupling methods. This technology has increased the coverage radius by 73%, which is 1.73 times the original, which means that the base station coverage area can be increased by 3 times. This technology greatly helps operators solve their coverage problems and reduce their investment in network construction.
“When we propose the concept and technology of decoupling of the uplink and downlink, we have received extensive support from operators around the world,†Yang Chaobin said. “In September this year in Tokyo, Japan, operators are supported by operators including three major operators in China and some major operators in Europe. There are some U.S. carriers that do not include our customers. This supports the technology. This is why last week, upstream decoupling technology could be standardized in the United States."
Meet the 5G strategic product opening invention budget more than 5 billion yuan
Under the situation where all the plants are operating at 5G, Huawei constantly emphasizes its own advantages: the comprehensiveness of end-to-end investment. In other words, Huawei's investment in 5G includes core networks, bearer networks, access networks, terminals, and terminal chips. Therefore, Huawei has a more complete perspective on design aspects.
It can be imagined that Huawei has many departments involved in the 5G project, including terminal companies, Hass chips, 5G products, bearer network product lines, and core network product lines. In response to the 5G strategy, Huawei specifically managed it as a project and unified budgets. This is why the budget for the 5G sector is a separate list. The budget for the last year was as high as 4 billion RMB.
Yang Chaobin told reporters that the funds spent by 5G in product development are far better than the R&D stage. “Although we have recruited hundreds of top wireless experts in so many countries around the world, we have only seen the 600 million U.S. dollar budget allocated by Huawei in 2009, which was purely used for 5G research and standardization. It has not yet been spent today. In fact, new technologies The research, innovation, and standardization work will not cost too much money."
Yang Chaobin revealed that product development is not the same. In contrast, Huawei's 5G product line, established in 2016, has spent 4 billion yuan of its budget in one year. Because in the product development, the entire end-to-end investment, a large-scale team, including instruments, equipment, materials, etc., product development started, investment is considerable. "Investment next year will certainly be greater than this year and must exceed RMB 5 billion," he said.
In response to the 5G strategy, Huawei has conducted pre-commercial system trials in a number of cities around the world, including Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul in South Korea, Milan in Italy, Tokyo in Japan, Vancouver and Toronto in Canada, and London in the United Kingdom. Huawei will launch 5G network equipment solutions next year and 5G handsets in 2019. The future of 5G is coming to us.
